Charity: John S. Pickering Foundation in support of children with Cystic Fibrosis
Profile: We cordially invite you to participate in the 9th Annual "Playing for a Cure" Celebrity Golf Tournament on October 9, 2006 at St. Marlo Country Club in Duluth, Georgia. The tournament is presented by the John S. Pickering Foundation in support of children with Cystic Fibrosis.

As many of you know, our son, John Spencer ("John John") was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 2 1/2 years. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the number one genetic killer of children and young adults in the United States. It is an incurable disease that affects the mucous secreting glands of the body, primarily in the lungs and digestive system. The mucous secreted is abnormal - very thick and sticky - and it clogs the lungs and digestive track, leading to numerous problems such as lung infections and intestinal blockages. Eventually, the bacteria that thrive in CF lungs destroy lung tissue, leading to respiratory failure.

We look forward to seeing you at this year's event !!!

Charity: Gilda’s Club
Profile: Gilda’s Club is about learning to live with cancer whatever the outcome.  Gilda’s Club will provide a gathering place for children, families and friends to create emotional and social support networks while learning to live with cancer.  At Gilda’s Club we believe that “No one should have to face cancer alone”, as Gilda Radner stated in her book, "It's Always Something".

Meet some of the people living with cancer in Atlanta.

The Worldwide organization was founded in 1999 and operates today in 21 cities throughout the United States and Canada, with 10 more in development. Each clubhouse is an independent affiliate of Gilda’s Club Worldwide

Gilda’s Club is coming to Atlanta, bringing its customized membership program including cancer specific networking groups, education, support, nutrition and exercise, children and teens activities all free of charge to anyone living with cancer.

The greater Atlanta organization is in the midst of raising the requisite funds to open our doors.  Meeting our fundraising goal of $1.2 million will enable us to have a Clubhouse where members enter through our trademark red door, meet free-of-charge and experience the unique setting and program of a Gilda’s Club.

Charity: Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta
Profile: For more than 65 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta has been in the forefront of youth development, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social, and family circumstances.  Boys & Girls Club has actively sought to enrich the lives of girls and boys that other youth agencies fail to reach.  Boys & Girls Club is dedicated to ensuring that our community’s disadvantaged youngsters have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures as productive citizens.

Since 1938, we have provided children with a positive place to go, results-oriented programming and a professional staff to guide them.

Last year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta served more than 15,000 young people through its Clubs, summer sites and outreach programs. We operate 21 full-time Clubs in 11 metro counties in addition to Camp Kiwanis and Youth Art Connection, an art gallery and workspace for young people in downtown Atlanta.

Clubs are located in communities with the greatest need where similar services are limited or nonexistent.  The cost of providing services to a member for a year is $900, but in order to serve effectively those who need us most, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta asks families to pay annual membership dues of only $35 per child and no child is turned away due to inability to pay.

A private, nonprofit organization, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta improves young lives as well as the communities that surround and support us. The organization relies upon private, corporate, individual and United Way funding to fill the gap between membership dues and operational expenses.

He truly believed one should DANCE LIKE THERE IS NOBODY WATCHING... ... Be oneself without fear of judgment ..  through John's hard work he had learned to share ones strengths and weaknesses openly and honestly so that others felt at ease around him..  Showing that you can be your real self.  Vicki and I created the JKC III Foundation, to serve teenagers.. We plan on it to be a lasting memorial to our child..
